The Webolution: Does Website Design / Redesign Have a Beginning and an End?

If you are about to embark on a website redesign project then you probably don’t want to hear that your project will more than likely never end. But more and more, I am finding this is true… and not in a bad way.

Set it and Forget it… is so 2005

As I come into probably what I would consider the 4th phase of my website design career (no, phase doesn’t mean years so don’t try to guess how old I am), I am spotting a trend wherein web projects that seemingly used to have a start and end date, no longer have that at all. My team and I used to agonize over the details of a launch, wash our hands, and then walk away from a website design project not to revisit it for a few years (if we were lucky enough to get the opportunity to work on the website redesign).

What Exactly are Your Intentions with My Website?

Today, that landscape looks much different for us. Post launch and sometimes even prior to launch I find myself having discussions with clients about the next iteration of a particular area of the site, subsequent phases, and possible elaborations on or improvements to functionality. As such, the project is run differently. The tone of the team is more like: be mindful of the details when considering a launch, hurry up and do it so the content is out there, shake hands and start planning on the next phase of development. I find these constantly evolving website projects to be the most fruitful.

Investing in Web Yields a Great ROI

The evolution of a website suggests a healthy content strategy, probably a dedicated digital media manager, and a pretty smart money manager that realizes investing in your website gives you the most bang for your marketing buck.

So the next time you think to yourself, will this web project ever end? Rest assured the answer is no.
